Barb began her career with GTN in 2000 when her husband, David Kolb, founded Hemisphere Tax Services in Minneapolis, a boutique firm that focused exclusively on expatriate and foreign national tax preparation and consulting. Barb brought the ‘back office’ talent to the young firm, which allowed David to remain client and business focused. In 2002, Hemisphere Tax Services combined forces with and re-branded as Global Tax Network.
Prior to joining GTN, Barb worked as Audit Manager at Deloitte for 6 years, followed by 7 years at LarsonAllen where she served 2 years as CPE Manager before moving into their Executive Recruiting division for another 5 years.
Through the years, Barb’s role within GTN has changed and evolved as the firm has grown. In addition to being a member of the GTN Executive Team, Barb’s is currently the Senior Director, Strategic and Sustainability Initiatives. In this role, Barb is responsible for working on strategic projects and initiatives, primarily related to the human resource, finance, marketing, and sustainability functions within the firm.
Barb is most known for:
- An ability to see the big picture, yet remain very detail-oriented;
- A high level of integrity with a disciplined, no-nonsense approach to projects and initiatives;
- Providing and expecting straightforward and honest communication.
Barb received her Bachelor of Accountancy degree from The University of North Dakota and holds an inactive CPA license. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Outside of the office, Barb enjoys spending time with her husband and their two kids, entertaining friends and family, traveling, and being involved with environmental/animal rescue organizations.
